Frequently Asked Question

Dried coconut meat is called desiccated coconut. It comes from mature coconuts with white flesh that is grated or shredded into small pieces. After that, the coconut is dried to remove most of its moisture. The result is a dry substance that’s mildly flavored with coconut and slightly sweet.

Desiccated coconut is often used in baking, confectionery, and as a dessert topping. It can be used in both sweet and savory recipes, providing a tropical coconut taste and texture. It’s a handy ingredient because it lasts a long time and doesn’t need to be refrigerated, so it’s a popular option for cooking and baking in many parts of the world.

Good Desiccated Coconut should be white with few yellow spots, black spots and other discolorations. It should smell sweet and have a mild, non-rancid coconut scent, as well as a uniform particle size distribution.

Black spots are foreign objects that can be found in desiccated coconut. They are mostly made up of grated and dried coconut skin that has gone through the same cutting and drying processes as the white coconut meat. It is acceptable to have up to four black spots per 100 g of desiccated coconut, as there is no perfect process without some margin of error.

Coconut Cream, also called Cream of Coconut, is a thick and creamy liquid made by squeezing the fresh meat of a mature coconut. It has a mild and sweet coconut flavor and a creamy white color. One large coconut can provide approximately 200ml of Coconut Cream.

When Coconut Cream is diluted, it becomes Coconut Milk. Coconut Cream has a maximum moisture content of 74.6%, while Coconut Milk has 87.3%. Coconut Milk is not the liquid found inside a coconut. That is known as Coconut Water, which is clear, refreshing, and cool to drink.

Coconut Cream and Coconut Milk are important ingredients for cooking exotic Asian dishes like curries, desserts, and other delicacies. They are also used in popular products like Pina Colada, ice cream, yogurt, and confectionery. These ingredients can be found in all delectable Malaysian, Indonesian, Thai, and Indian cuisine and snacks.

The inside of a coconut is made up of two edible parts: a white kernel and a clear liquid known as coconut water or coconut juice. It’s important not to confuse coconut water with coconut milk, which is a milky colored extract from the white kernel.

Coconut water is a popular refreshing drink in tropical countries and is believed to have health benefits. Coconut water is commonly sold by street vendors who cut open coconuts in front of customers to provide fresh access.

After “The FAO Coconut Water Process” was introduced by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization in the mid-2000s, coconut water turned up in many healthy beverages.
